Getting More From Sales Force Automation
(SFA) The primary goal of any sales force is selling. Yet,
companies have invested more in SFA systems that benefit sales management
than in solutions that benefit the salesperson, actually hindering sales
force productivity and effectiveness. Using today’s mobile solutions,
companies are empowering their sales forces by making them better
informed, better prepared and better able to exchange information with
their SFA and other corporate systems, so they can be more effective when
they are with customers and more productive during their downtime. This
keynote session will address how companies today are using mobile
technology to increase sales force productivity, improve customer
interactions and streamline business processes by reducing errors and
automating repetitive tasks. Felix Lin Vice Chairman &
Co-Founder AvantGo http://www.avantgo.com/ |
Using Pocket PCs To Access, Enhance, And
Maintain Corporate Knowledgebases - Increasing Employee Productivity And
Information Retention It's not so much the information that gives
you a strategic advantage; it's how you use the information. Today's
challenging business environment demands that all facets of your company
work in complete balance, sharing and combining information to ensure that
every employee is working at peak efficiency resulting in enhanced
productivity. Individual departments cannot afford to work on their own
without sharing critical information with others in the organization. To
better achieve organizational goals, companies have begun taking advantage
of their information and database resources for what they are: an valuable
training, development and organizational management tool to manage and
communicate critical information to your knowledge workers and key staff.
With many company employees working remotely, however, information can get
lost and immediate actions postponed, to detriment of your database
development and ultimately your company's bottom line. By linking
employees and their Pocket PC's to your company's databases, you can
facilitate the flow of all information to and from your knowledge
resources, enabling both data and employees to remain current.

Enterprise Deployment Of Pocket PCs - How
Sprite Ghost Turns A Pocket PC Into A Powerful Network Deployment
Tool At present, enterprises are considering rollouts of Pocket PC,
but there is very little information about what tools are available to
assist them in their deployments, and in the benefits of using imaging
techniques to manage device set up and recovery. I would like the
opportunity to explain the various options currently available for setting
up large numbers of devices and provide detail of the pros and cons of
each of the available options. I will also provide data on the time and
cost savings over the lifetime of a Pocket PC that can be expected to be
achieved if imaging techniques are used. The options currently available
are as follows: Devices set up by the users themselves. – Currently
prevalent, but likely to change as IT managers have to deal with the
fallout of user issues. Devices set up by IT department using manual or
semi-automatic installation methods. This is becoming more widespread as
Pocket PCs increase in popularity and use and as the IT department becomes
familiar with the issues involved. Devices set up by IT department using
imaging techniques. This is likely to become the most popular method, in
the same way that most desktop PCs are setup and managed by the company IT
department. During the course of my speech, where possible, I will
include short demonstrations to illustrate the issues involved. Sean

MultiMediaCard Applications - An Out of
Box Experience With the recent advancements of solid-state
technology, the MultiMediaCard is providing developers an opportunity to
publish their Pocket PC applications onto an inexpensive, large capacity
fixed media format. This provides exceptionally fast and secure access for
Pocket PC applications and content. The ROM MultiMediaCard format is ideal
for inexpensive, secure distribution of content. When more sophisticated
levels of digital rights management are desired, the Secure MultiMediaCard
provides developers, publishers and retailers a method to achieve "Super
Distribution"; allowing peer-to-peer distribution of the encrypted content
separately from the controlled distribution of encrypted licenses. With
card capacities of 128MB, learn how a new crop of "Plug and Play"
applications are being developed and marketed in retail channels for the
Pocket PC platform. You will learn about the tools and the processes
necessary to be among the first to create large, media-rich applications
for the Pocket PC on plug and play MultiMediaCards. Without the need to
download applications from a PC or the Internet, developers can now create
an Out of Box Experience for entertainment, business and productivity
applications. William Obeid Senior Vice

The
Challenges of Pocket PC Development With it's power, features and flexibility the
Pocket PC platform is a very compelling mobile development platform. As a
development platform it has also endured numerous immature tool suites and
in the past has often failed to live up to the marketing hype as the
universal panacea for extending the Microsoft paradigm onto mobile
devices. The relatively short development life span of the Pocket PC
specification (the last 18 months) coupled with disappointing wireless
bandwidth advances have left many corporate architects and mobile
developers uncertain of the future direction of Pocket PC
development. My presentation is intended as a high altitude pass of
the challenges inherent in Pocket PC development and the approach that
enterprise developers can adopt to minimize the technology churn. Up for
discussion are the maturing development platforms and methodologies
embracing XML-based data exchange, database replication, the advent of the
.NET Compact Framework and Smart Device Extensions as well as other
development solutions. Both enterprise IT leadership and developer
attendees will come away with a pragmatic approach to maximizing the
return on investment in the Pocket PC development arena. Derek Mitchell is one of the Pocket PC community's most
respected developers. His website, deVBuzz.com, is one of the most popular
resources for embedded development on the Web. Derek

Context Awareness In Mobile And Wireless
Computing Context awareness - the ability to adapt an application
to context sources such as location, presence, calendar, travel
information, network bandwidth and back-end applications has profound
implications on the usability of enterprise mobility solutions. Whether
for streamlined access to enterprise data or for smart proactive and
response-enabled event management, context plays a key role in the
adoption of mobile solutions. The session will describe what is context,
how context can be inferred, where context comes from and how context
helps create user-centric mobile applications. Sun Microsystems says that
"context-sensitve applications - smart web services that modify their
behavior based on identify, location, timing and intent - are the next big
thing" and the session will help visualize the power of context-aware
applications using examples from sales force automation and field service
applications. Yuval Boger CEO Unwired Express www.unwired express.com

Administration From Your Pocket PC - Never Go To Work Again No one
will argue that networks and computers are the life blood of most
organizations. Whether your organization is a Fortune 100 company or a
“mom and Pop” shop, when the network is down, you lose business, money,
customers, and reputation. As a system administrator, it is your job to
make sure that this does not happen. Problem is this is usually at the
expense of your personal and family life. This session will show you how
to use the power of the Pocket PC to diagnose and fix problems as they
occur wirelessly and securely. From just about anywhere and anytime.
Topics will include Terminal Services, VPN, Firewall configuration, and
system administration applications, such as sonicadmin. Take your life
back! Go to dinner or that movie. Leave your laptop at home! Barry

Unlock Your eBusiness Potential With Wireless
Technology For most companies, wireless is the final frontier of
the business technology cosmos. And for this reason, many companies
overlook its practical application in today's business environment. Yet
the strategic implications of wireless can't be denied, and late adopters
will find it hard to catch up with competitors who have indoctrinated
their employees, customers and partners into doing business the "wireless
way." Help is on the way for wireless-novice companies. Packaged
applications combined with affordable handheld units, standards-based
technologies and improved network architecture have teamed to create the
most hospitable environment yet, for the mobile worker. Now, mobile users
can take a "live" portion of their corporate desktop and assign customized
views of real-time data on their wireless device. The applications are
numerous - from checking product inventory levels, to approving major
purchases to placing orders directly into back-end systems - and can mean
significant cost savings, boosted productivity and enhanced customer
service. In this session, attendees will learn how companies like Arch
Chemical, Celanese Chemical and MGM have emerged as wireless wonders by
accessing back-end information on wireless hand-helds, thereby: *
Reducing delays in business processes by expediting orders into the
manufacturer * Lowering capital requirements by having the right
products at the right places at the right time * Arming their sales
force and channels with information that makes them more effective Roland Archer CTO &

The State Of Synchronization - Mobile Device
Proliferation Is Pushing The Need For Common Standards With the
proliferation of PDA’s and smartphones, the concept and need for data
synchronization has become well known to mobile users. They know they can
connect their devices to their PC’s and synchronize with the calendar,
contacts, tasks, memos and email. Palm device users have come to rely on
HotSync, Pocket PC users turn to ActiveSync, and numerous vendors have all
weighed in with solutions for optimizing this computer-to-device
operation. The reliance on a tethered approach to synchronization belies
the inherent mobility of these devices. Even with technologies like IrDA,
WiFi, and Bluetooth, the act of synchronizing a device is largely still a
“local” event. That is, despite the elimination of the physical connection
(i.e., the cradle or the cable), most synchronization solutions still
require close physical proximity to a user’s PC. However, SyncML, an
emerging open industry standard, promises to erase this remaining
limitation, allowing unencumbered “over-the-air” (OTA) synchronization of
devices wherever and whenever a user might wish. Diane

Client / Server Wireless Location Systems For Pocket
PC, Windows CE, and Smartphone 2002 As Pocket PCs become wireless
and wireless phones use Windows, there is increased opportunity to use
Windows CE systems for wireless location, such as turn by turn voice
navigation, tracking and mapping. Yet E-911 technology and high speed
packet networks (1XRTT and GPRS) needs more time to be nationally deployed
and don't solve the needs of many LBS applications. In addition, wireless
data networks are (and because of physics will probably always be),
constrained by coverage, reliability, speed, and cost issues. This
presentation will show how state of the art distributed, client/server
>technology can solve the problems of consumer and enterprise wireless
location services - today. Distributed technology allows applications to
combine the best features of Pocket PC, Windows CE, and Smartphone 2002
(Stinger) devices with the power of server-based access to huge amounts of
data. The most demanding applications will be used as an example with live
demonstrations. The technology will be contrasted with both sync only and
pure wireless server based location technology. Audience: Pocket PC
software developers, mobile work force employers (e.g. SFA, field service,
transportation and delivery, utilities), device manufacturers, wireless
carriers, national brands with mobile consumers, consultants and
integrators with an interest in location-based systems (LBS).

picture of when and how wireless financial services will become
mainstream. Here, we evaluate the major trends and provide the needed
socio-political context for creating a clear roadmap for the future of
these services.. Brad

Take Two Bytes And Call Me In The Morning -
E-Prescribing In A Large Physician Group Practice Eric
Mankin MD is the Chief Medical Officer for Temple Physicians Inc., the 80
physician community practice arm of the Temple University Health System
(TUHS). He also serves as Medical Director for TempleSelect, the Medical
Management arm of TUHS. He is a practicing family physician, and has
lectured and consulted with medical group practices on a variety of group
practice management and managed care topics over the years. Most recently,
he has been working to coordinate the implementation of a PocketPC
electronic prescribing solution with 70 physicians in the Temple
University Health System. For his efforts, he was named the Microsoft
Physician of the Year for 2001. Dr. Mankin will review Temple's decision
to move towards an electronic, wireless handheld solution for prescribing.
As an early adopter of the technology in the large community-based group
practice/academic medical center environment, Temple learned much about
what they did right (and wrong) in implementing their solution. The
discussion will focus on the use of the PocketPC platform in physician
prescribing and accessing clinical information, implementing the
technology, engaging and training physicians, and managing results.

Mobile Workers In Manufacturing, Financial Services And
Utilities - How Mobile Applications Can Help Companies Increase Workforce
Productivity iConverse Chairman Andy Fox will discuss how existing
business processes like asset management sales force automation and field
force automation are being transitioned to mobile in verticals like
manufacturing, financial services and utilities. Fox will cite numerous
case studies of leading companies that are using mobile to increase the
productivity of workers including Equifax, Otis Elevator and Con Edison.
Fox will also discuss the barriers to mobility like the lack of universal
network coverage and disparate enterprise technology investments. Four
things attendees will learn: 1. Dispelling the myth that mobile is good
for mobile's sake. Fox will touch on what job functions and what verticals
are ideal for mobile transition. 2. Technical requirements for an
enterprise transition to mobile: how is your enterprise set-up already?
Does the cost outweigh the benefits? 3. Cost analysis: How much will it
really cost an enterprise to mobilize a workforce and where is the ROI
justification? 4. 3G and network availability--should you wait until
ubiquitous network coverage becomes available or are there options for
offline functionality. Andy Fox CEO &
