Waldman's Bio |
As vice
president of the Mobile Devices Division, Ben Waldman has overall
responsibility for the design, development and
marketing of software for mobile devices such as
Pocket PCs, Handheld PCs and mobile phone products, and
is also responsible for the client portion of Microsoft Corp.’s
overall wireless strategy. He was promoted to
this position in January 2000.

Business Unit, where he set Microsoft’s
application strategy for the Macintosh, managed
the relationship between Microsoft and Apple Computer Inc., and had
overall responsibility for the development and
marketing of Microsoft’s applications for the
Mac OS, including the Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft
Internet Explorer browser software. Waldman founded the group in
December 1996, building the organization and leading it
in the design, development and marketing of the
highly acclaimed Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh
Edition. In March 1998, he took over responsibility for Microsoft’
s Internet products for the Macintosh, where he worked
on Internet Explorer and Outlook Express 4.5 and
5.0. With a staff of approximately 200, the Macintosh
Business Unit is the largest software organization for the Macintosh
in the world outside of Apple Computer.
Before that, Waldman served as development manager of the Office
Product Unit, where he led the development team
responsible for the core of Microsoft Office 97
for the Windows operating system. During his almost 11 years
at Microsoft he has also worked on three versions of Microsoft Excel
for Windows and Macintosh, where his accomplishments
included leading the team that made Excel for
Windows Microsoft’s first application to support the
Visual Basic for Applications macro language, and leading the Excel
5.0 for Macintosh project.
Waldman received an A.B. degree summa cum laude in computer science
from Harvard University, Phi Beta Kappa, in
1989. |
